Perhaps the most underrated of the Casio Vintage Series Data Banks, it is one of the best!

Bought on Amazon in March 2018, as the third model of my small Casio Vintage collection (10 pcs), the DB-360 silver with stainless steel strap is one of my absolute favourites. In this post I tell you about a Casio Data Bank with an incredible quality-price ratio (economic and energy crisis, inflation, semiconductor and microchips crisis, energy transaction, lockdown in China, wars, viruses, permitting), without however omitting all its limits. A short introduction before seeing in detail the characteristics, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of this model. This premise applies to all the "tribute" models of the Casio Vintage and Collection series. We are light years away in terms of quality from the original models of the 80s and 90s, and this is not so much due to the fact that Casio has moved the production of these series to China, rather than the originals which were produced in Japan or in Taiwan, but for the choice of saving on materials and the limitation or elimination of some functions.

The first aspect, therefore, which may disappoint both those who buy a Casio like this for the first time, and Casio lovers who after so many years would like to buy a watch that evokes memories of their adolescence, is the resin used for the dial (I will always call it plastic) instead of the stainless steel of the originals. The silver chrome is excellent, not surprisingly this version is also known as DB Silver or Argento, however, personally I would have preferred a steel case, more resistant and also more secure against water (although this model is labeled as WR - resistant to water).

Another negative note concerns the impossibility of choosing the duration of the light. Almost all the ten years batteries, calculators, data banks and world times allow you to select the duration of the illumination of the dial from a minimum of 1 second to a maximum of 3 seconds. This model, however, does not have this option and, therefore, even if you hold down the light button, the dial will light up for just over a second. Too bad, because the DB360N green led is one of my favourites.

It is not possible to deactivate the noise of the keys when changing functions, and the volume of the ringtone, as in all Casio vintage and collection series, is very low. This negative feature diminishes one of the strengths of this Data Bank which is precisely given by the five alarms/alarm clocks, with the first of the 5 having a snooze function, and daily, weekly and monthly programming. Alarms, however, last for ten seconds. Finally, a last element that could disappoint some is the mineral glass which, however, has the defect of tarnishing easily. The strap used is Casio's iconic stainless steel strap with folded links that taper towards the closure, creating a wave effect, with the Casio brand engraved on the adjustable buckle. The serial number of the band engraved on the back is S910DY.

The selection of the various functions is fluid and very intuitive. By pressing the mode/left key at the bottom left, the telephone book is displayed, then the alarms, stopwatch, countdown, and finally, the second time (dual time) set. Except in phonebook mode, when using the other functions, the main time is always visible in the lower left. From the main screen it is possible to change the time format simply by pressing the right/12/24 key at the bottom right, and by keeping this key pressed, the time of day (DST) is activated or deactivated. When in the main screen, the forward key is used to display a number in the directory, while the reverse key shows the second time. Still on the main screen, if you hold down the mode/left key for about three seconds, all the functions will start scrolling (the thirteen languages, the directory, the alarms, etc.). The latter function that we find in almost all Casio world time or data banks, and which only serves to discharge the battery.
